Progress Progress Progress...and another one down!

Over the last few nights, I've made a fair bit of progress! I've managed 3 and a half Kms on the treadmill now with a mixture of running and jogging, which I'm pretty chuffed with so early in the year! 10k should be achievable.
I went to see the Iron Lady last night, which is another movie off the list. I've acquired 3 others to watch, so I'm hoping to get fired into them this week or this weekend. I've tried to locate another couple two, but I'm struggling to find some of the foreign films. As feared, this is going to be difficult, perhaps even impossible. (especially finding films with English subtitles). Still, I'm pretty sure 200 is realistically achievable, so I'll keep going!

I've watched about half of the first series of Pokemon so far, and I'm on page 50 of 600 or so of my latest Ice and Fire book.

I spoke to my mum (and my dad actually - keeping up with my family better already) who brought up the referendum for an Independent Scotland last night. I resisted the temptation to argue back with her about how stupid an idea I feel an Independent Scotland is. I'm claiming that as another one of my nifty 50 complete. Pure beasted.

4 down, 46 to go. I'm off to the gym tonight and I'm about to go read some more of my book.

Catch you all on the flip side.

Horrendous realisation

I've read the list again and I've realised, I've really got my work cut out here. Considering there are only 52 weekends in the year, I work 9 til 5:30 every day and I also only have 25 holidays (as well as a couple of holidays to fit in) the remaining 47 items on the list will not be easy to complete. This isn't a white flag, not by a long way, BUT I do need to come up with a plan. 2 of the items are actually the same thing (give money to a charity) so they'll take care of themselves (I'll do it twice, rather than the once). There's obviously quite a lot of potentially expensive items amongst this true (trips to London, Bristol, Bolton for football matches (not to mention the admission prices!!) and the aforementioned cricket match all spring immediately to mind, not to mention the 5 gigs I've got to try and get to!)

You know what? Not gambling for a month will certainly help me cut my losses as my recent record has been absolutely horrendous. Who would have thought that Bolton wouldn't beat Macclesfield? Or St Mirren would be bored into submission by Hamilton? God sake.

Right, enough of this blog for now. I'm wasting precious reading (or movie... or Pokemon...or application filling... or countless other things on my list...) time.

Time to start book 4 of 6 in the Ice and Fire collection. That should keep me occupied until bed time!

Ok, so maybe I cheated a bit...

..but I have now achieved another two on my list! I have taken Montrose from the 3rd division to the Premier League in Football Manager 2012. Yes, I know, it's clear I'd started this before putting the list together, but it's now done. I've never quite managed to get that far with one club in Football Manager games, and I've been playing them since 1997.

I'm claiming a third one too, although it does have an air of contention as 1) I've been an idiot and written cinema instead of restaurant. Number 29 reads 'order something completely new from a cinema'. This shows the value of proof reading, it should of course say restaurant. The second contentious aspect is that I didn't have the food in question at a restaurant, but I was round at a friend's house. I was offered chilli for dinner, which I would normally, politely, turn down as I'm a bit scared of spicy, unfamiliar food. I tried it, liked it, and it shows!

I joined a gym too, so that's the first item on my list complete. I said in the last entry that I had already completed one of my list, but I didn't actually confirm what. Silly lad, but there you go.

3 down, 47 to go!

What is this blog all about?

Hello regular readers (or I'm sure you will be after you read my first post).

My name is Kyle and I've decided to both write, and then blog, about my 'nifty fifty'. I have highlighted 50 things that I would like to achieve this year (49 now though, mind you!). I feel all of these ambitions are realistically achievable, and I'll be mildly cross with myself if I don't at least give this a right good bashin'.

I might as well get right to it, and post my 50. Some of them will challenge me, not because of the difficulty, but because I might just simply run out of time.

1) Join the gym
2) Run 10k on the treadmill without having to 'power walk'
3) Finish All the Ice and Fire books again

9) Read the Stieg Larsson trilogy
10) Read all 7 Harry Potter books (excluding the shite) again
11) Complete Dragon Warrior Monsters
12) Visit Upton Park for any championship/premiership match
13) If both still in the Championship next season, go to the West Ham vs Millwall game. If not, West Ham vs Spurs

18) Go shopping with my girlfriend on a Saturday afternoon whilst Saints are playing and DON'T complain about it

20) Go down to Bolton to cheer on Owen Coyle (if he's still there!)
21) Clean the entire house without having to be asked to do so
22) Get back in touch (and regularly visit) my best friend from high school
23) Not to argue with my mother when she talks about how great the SNP are, even if it's just once.
24) Apply for graduate schemes, on the off chance they're desperate enough to take me on!
25) Track my family heritage back at least a few generations
26) Complete an entire season on FIFA 12
27) Take a team from division 3 to the SPL on Football Manager 12

49) Keep in better touch with my family
50) Always try to see the positive in everything
The good news for me is that I've already done number 1, I'm making a right go at number 49 and I'm well on my way with some of these (particularly the Oscars one - I'm 112 or 113 deep at this moment in time, so nearly half way there!

Wish me luck, I'm sure I'll need it to reach all 50

Bold items are now complete
